This course is a foundation art course for students wanting to develop and improve basic art skills and knowledge of artists, mediums, techniques, and processes of art. Emphasis is placed on the Elements of Art (Line, Shape, Form, Space, Color, and Texture), & Movements & Trends in Art History. Students are given the option of choosing from a variety of studio assignments involving visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic styles of learning. Students are introduced to a variety of art mediums, tools, techniques, and processes of art. This course develops critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning, analysis, interpretation, and conceptual synthesis. The focus is on research practices, interrogative questioning, creativity, artistry, curiosity, imagination, innovation, and personal expression. Students in this course are introduced to the basics of two-dimensional art: specifically drawing, painting and printmaking. Through the work completed in these three areas, students learn the concepts common to all the visual arts. These concepts include the elements and principles of design, color theory and the design process. Ultimately students create quality artwork while becoming fluent in the visual language.
